COTU boss Francis Atwoli has dismissed claims that he’s among those planning to eliminate the Deputy President. Atwoli, while reacting to allegations labeled against him by Ruto’s allies, said that he does not have any ill plans against the Deputy President.
He further disagreed with the government’s position to change the security officers guarding DP Ruto’s premises.
“When it comes to the security of any Kenyan, I don’t compromise. And I equally don’t support what the government did and if they were to change that security they would have done with the knowledge of our Deputy President. Because we don’t want these lame excuses being blamed on the government, because of the security and other people.” He said.
He disagreed with Kimani Ngunjiri’s sentiments saying that he didn’t mention anything that touched on the security of the Deputy President.
“Kimani Ngunjiri in his address on this pathetic issue, he mentions my name, he says that what people like Atwoli had said is what is happening, me I said nothing and what I said I always did so in the public,
And from 2014 I said our Deputy President is not the right person to assume the responsibilities of the presidency of this nation. And if Kenyans want to make him President they are free to do so, this is a democratic country, but they will have to see on themselves what they wanted.” He added
Atwoli distanced himself further stating that he was ready to respect Ruto’s presidency if elected by Kenyans.
“We will respect his presidency if elected but the issue of circulating on social media, La-Murder, what…And in the community that I come from when you have children, when you have a family like me, when you have grandchildren you cannot kill or plan to kill anybody.” Stated Atwoli.
He also urged Kenyans not to get carried away by promises made by politicians. In what seemed to be directed to Ruto’s bottom-up economic model, Atwoli said that people were being promised heaven without being shown where hell is.
“Protect what you have in hand other than expecting a new heaven when you are not in a position to see where hell is because people are being promised heavens and those are promising people heavens are not in a position to show them where hell is.” He said.
The office of the Inspector General said on Friday that the changeover of DP Ruto’s security was normal, but Ruto’s communication secretary David Mugonyi said the state was undermining the DP’s safety.
“The Deputy Inspector General of APS is under instructions to ensure personnel from SGB take over protection of the premises. They are all police officers,” said an official who asked not to be named.
