Shock gripped the residents of Kampi ya Samaki in Baringo after a snake visited a home of a renowned snake charmer.
The snake appeared two days after the older man was buried. The python made rounds between the grave, and the house is a rare display to mourn a departed friend.
Esther Ewoi, the widow to the deceased, recounted how the snake visited her late husband’s grave.
“My husband died after a short illness on 30th and we burried him on Thursday. The python visited us on Friday night around 11pm,” She said
She further stated that nobody bothered to harm the snake or chase it away as they believed it just decided to visit and mourn its late friend.
The family allowed the snake to sleep in the deceased house until the following day when they alerted neighbors.
Witchcraft
Vincent Ewoi, the late son, dismissed any claims of witchcraft, stating snakes have been part of the family.
“This is not witchcraft, snakes have been part of our family. My father taught us to feed and domesticate them.” He said
The world life officers brutally beat Nakorot in 2019 for operating without a permit.
He was later handed a six-month jail term for keeping snakes without a permit. Harassments from the reinforcement officer made Nakorot relocate his business to Turkana.
The late William Ewoi was honored by the National Museums of Kenya as a determined reptile.
He charmed over 2000 snakes of different species during his time, which he sold their venoms to experts to manufacture snake antidotes.
A friend to William said that he would be dearly be missed by locals.
According to the villager, William’s business had become the source of revenue to the jobless residents. He would pay between Ksh. 20 and Ksh. 40 for small snakes and Ksh. 100 and Ksh 200 for giant snakes.
