KRN NEWS DESK

Fifa and Uefa suspend Russian clubs from all competitions in a move to condemn Putin.

As the world continues to condemn President Putin’s move to invade Ukraine, The world and European football governing bodies have jointly banned Russian Football until further notice.

UEFA also kicked Spartak Moscow out of the Europa League, this means that their last -19 opponents RB Leipzig will now participate in the quarter-finals.

The ban will also affect the Russian national team, this means that the Russian men’s team has been barred from playing their World Cup play-off matches scheduled for next month.

“Football is fully united here and in full solidarity with all the people affected in Ukraine, both presidents hope that the situation in Ukraine will improve significantly and rapidly so that football can again be a vector for unity and peace amongst people,” Fifa and Uefa said in a joint statement.

Earlier, FIFA moved the 2022 Champions League final to Paris, it was originally slated to be played in St Petersburg in Russia on 28 May 2022.

A number of European clubs have also taken steps to disassociate themselves from President Putin’s actions. Manchester United have canceled its partnership with Russia’s national airline Aeroflot.
