Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has revealed crucial details that led to the deportation of Turkish national Harun Aydin.

Money laundering and terrorism

Speaking during a brief with National Assembly’s Committee on Administration and National Security, the no-nonsense CS, stated that Harun’s track movement is a characteristic of people involved in money laundering and terrorism.

“This is how we tracked his movement, we saw he is in Sudan, Zanzibar, Uganda, and all that kind of thing. That behavior is most cases characteristics of people who are engaged in money laundering.” He said

“And you know money laundering and terrorism are crimes that are usually joint at the hip. When this came to our attention it was flagged, we sought to get more information on this person.” He added

Sneaked into the country

The CS claimed that the Turkish national had been sneaked into the country on two occasions. According to Matiang’i, the passport belonging to Harun had not been stamped by the authorities.

“We noticed when we looked at his passport that he has left the country twice without a stamp that he had landed at the country,” he claimed.

On government apology claims

He further dismissed Deputy President’s sentiments that he had apologized on behalf of the government.

“No. The Kenyan government has not apologized. The Turkish national was deported on the agreement between our two governments. Our security apparatus were in communication before and during the exercise,”

Ruto through his official Twitter account on Monday 9th August 2021 said that he called Harun Aydin to apologize on behalf of the Kenyan government.

“Just talked and apologized on behalf of GoK to Aydin Harun, now in Turkey, who was politically arrested, tortured & falsely profiled as a ‘terrorist’ but later asked to fly out not to shame those involved. Political pettiness is expensive/dangerous & will destroy our economy. SHAME,” Ruto wrote.
