Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Karanja Kibicho met leaders from Kirinyaga County among them Governor Anne Waiguru, Woman Representative Purity Ngirici, and Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua in Kutus town ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebration to be held in the county.
Kibicho put aside his political differences with Governor Anne Waiguru to focus on the Mashujaa day celebration. He said that they had agreed to have a healthy competition among leaders and to focus on peace.
“We have also drawn up a wish list as the president will be coming here. We have agreed as Kirinyaga people we shall have the healthiest competition. All aspiring, former, and sitting leaders are here. But most importantly is the commitment of all leaders to uphold peace during this period, before Mashujaa Day and even after,” He said.
Waiguru noted that the meeting that brought together leaders with different political ambitions discussed issues affecting Kirinyaga people.
“We convened here mostly to discuss Kirinyaga issues, but also the biggest concern right now is the issue of Mashujaa and the other issues of concern here are matters of security concern.” Anne Said.
Karua reiterated the same message saying that the meeting was about the development of Kirinyaga and the unity of purpose.
“This meeting was about the development of Kirinyaga and also unity in the sense that all leaders have come together, something we should be doing even when we are not having a president,” Karua noted.
Ngirici, who has declared her interest to run for the gubernatorial seat, stated that leaders should put aside their political differences and work towards helping the Kirinyaga people.
The big four have all declared their interest in taking over the leadership of the county. Governor Anne Waiguru is seeking to retain her seat, though she admits that it would be difficult to defend her post using Jubilee Party.
PS Kibicho and Women Representative Purity Ngirici have united to form a formidable team to beat Governor Waiguru come 2022. During a meeting held in Kirinyaga County, PS Kibichi publicly endorsed Ngirici saying that she is the right candidate to change Kirinyaga.
