Embattled Jubilee Secretary-General has dismissed claims indicating that the party would be holding a crisis meeting in light of the latest accusations pointed at the party’s leadership.

Tuju refused to divulge any information concerning the meeting. He affirmed that the details of the meeting would be public after the session.

Tuju and his counterpart David Murathe have been under immense pressure from the party members after losing to UDA’s candidate in Kiambaa.

OP interference

Details have now emerged that senior officials working in the president’s office kicked out party officials from the Kiambaa campaign.

Joseph Mathai, the Jubilee regional coordinator for Kiambu and Murang’a, alleged that he was not involved in the campaign despite being the point man in the region.

“You can imagine that being the guy in charge of that region, I was never involved in that campaign so when somebody points a finger at me I think they should be checked,” he said in an interview with a local newspaper.

Mathai further excluded Jubilee Secretary-General from the losses in Kiambaa and Juja by-elections. He argued that those who interfered with elections should face wrath, including resigning from their positions.

“We blame it on the people who went there and excluded the Secretary-General and his experienced directors who had come from the merged 12 political parties. Our track record is simple, if anybody wants to know how capable we are, we delivered 2013 and the much-contested election of 2017,” he said.

“They should look at the electoral calendar, if you want to get involved in politics and you are a civil servant, there is a date for you to resign then you come and join us. We are not going to have pseudo civil servants, pseudo politicians interfering with electoral processes. Our role was reduced to prayers,” Mathai added.

Restructuring

Several Jubilee Party members have demanded the restructuring of the party whose popularity continues to diminish.

Murang’a Women Rep Sabina Chege accused those who are running the party of being reckless. She added that they are giving the party a bad name, yet they were not adding value to the party.

“In my opinion the only challenge we have in Jubilee is we have people who talk recklessly, people who give our party a bad name, then when it comes to looking for votes you don’t see them on the ground,” she stated.

Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja warned that if the party leadership is not ready to account for what they have done with the party, they will eject them.

“Jubilee is not dead. We must stay, those who are at the helm, must account to the members what they have done with our party, if they fail we will be forced to eject and get new leadership.” He said.
