Deputy President allies have cried foul after security officers manning Ruto’s residents were withdrawn. The residences affected are DP’s official residence in Karen, Nairobi, and his rural Sugoi home. The General Service Unit was removed on Thursday in unclear circumstances and replaced by the Administration Police.

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi took to social media protesting the move against the security officers’ withdrawal. He accused the head of state and interior cabinet secretary of being petty.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta is a very petty President but CS Matiang’i is the pettiest of all. The duo has just ordered the withdrawal of all security officers manning Sugoi, Elgon View home, Karen Residence, and all other premises linked to DP Ruto.” His post read.

Dennis Itumbi also posted on his Twitter handle saying that the Cabinet Secretary for interior acted against the police standing orders.

“Security guarding DP Residences in Nairobi & Upcountry WITHDRAWN THE Move is Contrary to Police Standing Orders, Chapter 8 section 5(e) that the GSU Commandant shall be responsible for security to the President, the DP &, State Houses,” Itumbi said.

The move to withdraw Ruto’s security come days after President Uhuru Kenyetta dared him to resign if he was not happy with the government policies.

“The honorable thing is that if you are not happy with it, step aside and allow those who want to move on to do so and take your agenda to the people. You can’t have your cake and eat it,” President Uhuru said.

DP Ruto in what seemed to be a direct reply to his boss said that he didn’t have the luxury to surrender.

“I want to tell those who are against us that they should know that I’m a man on a mission. I have no space to retreat nor the luxury to surrender,” said Ruto.
