DP Rigathi Gachagua Impeachment: The simmering tension between President William Ruto and his Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, has escalated to a full-blown political crisis, with allegations of a coup plot, assassination plans, and deep internal subversion now in the public domain.

Gachagua is reportedly at the center of a scheme to overthrow President Ruto, according to explosive revelations from sources close to the country’s top leadership.

The scandal began after Gachagua allegedly told five Cabinet Secretaries during a high-level meeting that they should urge the president to resign if they wanted to see his solutions for controlling the growing Gen-Z demonstrations.

The protests, largely led by Kenya’s disillusioned youth, have rattled the government. However, rather than offering a strategy, Gachagua reportedly told the stunned Cabinet members, “Tell him to resign, and I will show you how to handle this.”

A source privy to the meeting disclosed, “It was shocking. Instead of offering practical solutions, the Deputy President hinted at removing the president as the only way to resolve the crisis.”

Orchestrating the Unrest

Reports have since emerged suggesting that Gachagua was not merely a passive observer in the chaos, but an active participant in fomenting the demonstrations.

It is alleged that he masterminded the protests from his office, offering Ksh 500 million to organizers with the goal of toppling the Ruto administration. According to insiders, this was part of a broader strategy to destabilize the presidency and ultimately take power himself.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, one MP familiar with the situation revealed, “Gachagua’s plan wasn’t just about weakening Ruto politically—it was about a total takeover. Some even say assassination was considered. It’s a power grab by any means necessary.”

The allegations were further bolstered by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, who claimed that the deputy president and his close allies had laid out a detailed plan to oust Ruto, even contemplating extreme measures.

A Rogue Deputy President?

The shocking allegations of an attempted coup gained more weight after it was revealed that Gachagua had approached opposition members to support his plot against Ruto.

According to sources close to President Ruto, Gachagua met with opposition MPs, seeking their help to undermine the presidency, accusing Ruto of being “rigid” and out of touch with the needs of the people. The opposition, however, played their cards carefully.

“When the opposition heard about Gachagua’s suggestion, they immediately informed Raila Odinga, who then relayed the information to President Ruto,” said a source, who is close to the matter.

Faced with what they viewed as a dangerous threat from within, Ruto and Odinga reportedly formed an unlikely alliance to neutralize Gachagua, labeling him “rogue and unpredictable.”

The alliance shocked many political observers, given the historically fraught relationship between the two leaders.

“It was a matter of survival,” said a political analyst. “When faced with someone as unpredictable as Gachagua, it made sense for Ruto and Raila to set aside their differences to protect the stability of the government.”

Security Changes and Secrecy

As the scandal deepened, President Ruto reportedly took drastic measures to protect himself. Sources indicate that Ruto has changed his security detail multiple times in recent weeks, fearing for his safety.

Additionally, Gachagua was removed from Ruto’s daily schedule, further signaling the widening rift between the two leaders.

Gachagua himself confirmed this in a recent interview, saying, “I have been sidelined. They have even taken me off the president’s itinerary. I don’t know what’s going on.”

In another shocking revelation, there are claims that Gachagua leaked sensitive security information from top organs of the government to further his ambitions.

At one point, the Deputy President allegedly demanded the dismissal of the head of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), a move that was seen as part of his efforts to weaken the security apparatus and consolidate his influence within the government.

One security insider shared, “It became evident that Gachagua was not acting in the best interests of the country. There were multiple red flags, and the president was forced to act to safeguard national security.”

Impeachment Motion Gathers Steam

As the political drama unfolded, Parliament began to act. An impeachment motion has now been signed by 291 Members of Parliament, seeking to remove Gachagua from office.

The motion accuses him of gross misconduct, subversion, and violation of the constitution, with lawmakers united across party lines in their demand for accountability.

Speaking about the motion, one MP remarked, “We cannot allow someone who is plotting to overthrow the government to remain in office.

The allegations are too serious, and we must take action to protect the integrity of the presidency and the stability of our nation.”

The impeachment drive has also sparked conversations about Gachagua’s potential successors. Among those being considered are Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

The discussions have ignited speculation about who Ruto would choose as his next deputy if Gachagua is indeed impeached.
