Deputy President William Ruto has broken his silence to respond to Raila’s sentiments saying that the opposition should respect his coalition.

The war of words between the two escalated after Raila Odinga claimed that Ruto’s bottom-up economic model was unrealistic and not well thought through.

TakaTaka claims

Raila while addressing a section of Mt Kenya business community members at the home of late Kiambu businessman, Nginyo Kariuki said Ruto was hoodwinking Kenyans with a model which he termed as ‘Takataka’

“We have a bigger agenda. There must be a concise, well-thought-out plan of rebuilding the economy, and not economic models largely anchored on sloganeering. This hoodwinking is takataka,” Raila said.

Confused model

Speaking during a burial in Nyanza the ODM leader said that the Ruto’s brigade is fronting a model that they do not understand,

“Others are coming with economic models that they themselves don’t understand. But for us we know where we have come from, where we are and where we are heading,” he stated

He further claimed that he has the best economic model anchored in his 2013 agenda.

“Ours is about education, better health, among others. This will make Kenya a manufacturing hub in East and Central Africa.” He added

Ruto’s response

DP responded to Raila’s sentiments saying that the ODM Leader is not used to discussing issues affecting the common ‘mwanainchi’, urged them to desist from calling his coalition rubbish.

“There’s no need of abusing others, calling them rubbish, you planned your alliance with tribal chiefs, you should respect our alliance formed by mama mboga.” He said

“I want to tell my friends that we understand fully well that you are in strange territory, you are not used to discussing ordinary people.

You are used to discussing with leaders of tribal parties about positions and power. We are telling you this time around we are going to have a different conversation about ordinary people.” He added

The debate about the economy is shaping the 2022 election contest between DP Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Musalia Mudavadi’s take

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has also jumped into the bandwagon of those opposed to Ruto’s model. He says the conversation should be expanded.

“I want us to debunk this notion that it’s about economic models. We have been killing page after page, in our media, several hours on our TV arguing about models making it look like it’s a simple academic exercise,” he said.
