Duale goes for DP post in UDA, sponsors online campaigns.

Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale has started sponsoring online campaigns aiming at positioning himself as the front runner for the Deputy President post.

Duale who served as Jubilee’s majority leader is said to have told his close friends that he would go for the Deputy President post using the UDA party.

Duale sponsors Twitter hashtag

On 18th November 2021, Duale sponsored a hashtag on Twitter dubbed #DualeTosha with banners positioning himself as Deputy President’s running mate.

Duale is among the top leaders from the Somali community who wields a lot of influence. He’s DP Ruto’s point man in the northeastern region.

Duale on political trust

The former Majority leader however does not trust the deputy president fully, during one of the interviews with a local television station, Duale stated that he does not trust anyone in politics.

“Do not trust anyone in politics. Do not trust the journey he walks with you. Do not trust where he places you. Politics in Kenya is synonymous with betrayal, deceit, humiliation, backstabbing, and throwing people under the bus,” he stated

“At any time, if a politician, tells you to close your eyes so he can pray for you, keep one eye open. Raila betrayed Ruto in 2007 and Uhuru betrayed Ruto between 2018 and 2022. I have seen it all, so the only thing remaining for me is to see if William Ruto will betray me. But I think if we will keep playing politics, he will betray me and that’s the truth,” Duale stated.

Duale and Mount Kenya factor

The Deputy President has not yet settled on a candidate but there are chances that he will pick his running mate from the Mount Kenya region.

The Kikuyu community is seen to be the kingmakers in the 2022 general elections. The DP has made several inroads to the region to stamp his authority.

Those close to the DP have stated that he is not willing to risk the Mount Kenya vote by choosing a candidate outside that region.
