Full list of security officers guarding DP Ruto
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi has rubbished claims that the Deputy President is in danger.
Appearing before the National Assembly Security Committee on Wednesday, the CS noted that the current Deputy President is the most guarded as compared to the previous former Vice-Presidents.
He shared a list of how the previous Vice Presidents were guarded as follow: Jaramogi Oginga Odinga (30), Joseph Mulumbi (22), Daniel Moi (34), Mwai Kibaki (26), Josephat Karanja (22), George Saitoti (30), Musalia Mudavadi (22), Kijana Wamalwa (22), Moody Awori (22), Raila Odinga -Prime Minister (57), Kalonzo Musyoka (26), William Ruto (Current DP) (74).
Matiang’i told the committee that William Ruto has a total of 257 officers guarding him and his properties
“Contrary to the allegations made and in view of the tabled evidence (annex land 2), H.E. the Deputy President is the most guarded in the history of the country in comparison with previous equivalent officeholders,” said Matiang’i.
In an elaborate statement, the CS shared a three-layer structure of the Deputy President’s security team drawn from the DCI, GSU, and the Presidential Escort Unit.
Layer one consists of;
- Presidential Escort Unit (74 officers),
- General Service Unit (GSU) (6 officers),
- Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) (6 officers), all totaling to 85 officers.
Layer Two brings together officers from;
- the Security of Government Buildings (SGB),
- prisons service officers,
- Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit. This brings together a total of 121 personnel who operate on a 24-hour basis.
Layer Three is an auxiliary security layer that keeps an eye on Ruto’s properties. The CS detailed the composition of the officers deployed to various properties belonging to the DP as follows:
- Kitengela Gas Company, 6 officers
- Murumbi Farm in Transmara (395 Hectares), 6 officers
- ADC Laikipia Mutara Ranch, 6 officers
- Dolphine Hotel in Mombasa (3 Hectares), 6 officers
- Mata Farm in Taita Taveta (1,026 Hectares) 6 officers
- Weston Hotel in Nairobi County, 4 officers
- Private residence in Elgon View, 4 officers
- Eldoret, Koitalel Poultry Farm in Eldoret, 4 officers
- Private residence in Kosachei in Eldoret 4 officers
- Kwale Island Development Limited in Wilson Airport, which consists of two Hangers and five helicopters, is guarded by five police officers. This brings the total number of officers situated within the third security layer to 51.
CS Matiang’i added that he would not list all the assets of the DP since the meeting was held in the public light and would jeopardize the security matters of the properties.
