GORDON OPIYO: Lessons Raila and ODM should have learned

BY GORDON OPIYO FB

Never ever despise anyone who has helped you, even in a small way. The little help, however minuscule and however insignificant made a world of a difference when you needed it most.

ODM and Raila were clearly the big brothers in both CORD and NASA. But they needed top-up from the “weaklings” in order to match the Behemoth that Uhuru and Ruto had assembled.

Reaching Canaan, Raila and ODM forgot the fact, insignificant partners. In fact, they insulted them and declared their former partners as useless “leeches”.

Apart from political partners thrown under the Bus, Raila kicked out of powerful billionaires that stood by him when he was at his lowest between 2013 and 2017. Jimmy Wanjigi poured billions into the ODM system. Keroche Breweries spent hundreds of millions funding ODM and Raila activities. Humphrey Kariuki of the Blue Moon Vodka boosted Raila… And finally, SportPesa made Raila their Ambassador, pouring billions…

But all these were dropped as soon as a new set of Billionaires came calling…And their businesses destroyed…

One key lesson from the Earthquake yesterday was that the so-called “leeches” may be planning a major dose of cold calculated revenge…

Remember, all top Kamba Leaders have declared in three different press conferences that “there is no way they are going to support Raila again”

The significance of having people like Muthama on the other side is that they could be agents… Just like Eliud Owalo and Barack Muluka who went ahead of Mudavadi.

Just like in 2002, Kalonzo was the last to jump from the Uhuru ship. This time, he may also jump at the very last minute. Remember, in a press interview last week he clearly indicated that has not talked to Raila for three months.

These “leeches” as Edwin Sifuna calls them may do the 2002 mega defection all over again, and spite Raila and Uhuru…

Key lesson… Never despise the little insignificant people in your life
