Nairobi, Kenya – Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, the nominee for the Cabinet Secretary for the Blue Economy, made headlines during his vetting process by the National Assembly when he candidly shared his academic journey.
While answering a question on ‘Hassan Joho KCSE results’, Joho revealed that he scored a D minus in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, a grade that often stigmatizes students and limits their academic and professional opportunities.

Despite this initial setback, Joho has not only earned two degrees but is also pursuing a master’s degree.
“I got a D minus no doubt, but Mr. Speaker, I turned that around. Today, I hold two degrees, and I’m on my pathway to attaining my master’s degree,” Joho told the vetting panel.
