Is Uhuru Betraying Raila?: Uhuru Kenyatta Accused of Betraying Raila Odinga’s Ambitions for AU Role.
Legislators of both Azimio la Umoja and Kenya Kwanza coalitions have joined forces to condemn former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of secretly plotting to betray Raila Odinga’s aspirations.
The allegations revolve around Uhuru’s purported support for Tanzania’s Jakaya Kikwete in the upcoming African Union (AU) Chairmanship race.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei took a firm stance, claiming that Uhuru’s secret support for Kikwete was a direct betrayal of Raila Odinga.
“We are pleading with Uhuru to stop sponsoring Kikwete for the AU role. Raila has been hurting a lot, and we think this seat will help him give back to the continent,” stated Cherargei.
He further urged Uhuru to set aside past political differences and support Raila, emphasizing the importance of presenting a united East African candidate.
Azimio MCA Robert Alai added fuel to the fire, alleging that President Uhuru Kenyatta was actively pushing for Kikwete’s candidacy.
“I am told by two people very close to President Kikwete that the former Tanzanian President is about to apply for the AU Chairmanship. I am told that it’s President Uhuru and Samia Suluhu who prodded him to apply for the position. I don’t know why Uhuru pretends to love Raila while he has his silent schemes,” remarked Alai.
