Nairobi, Kenya – The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, led by Cabinet Secretary Hon. Rebecca Miano, launched the Tourism Fund Strategic Plan for the fiscal years 2024/25 to 2028/29, outlining a comprehensive roadmap to propel Kenya’s tourism sector forward.

The plan is designed to align with the nation’s Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, aiming to position tourism as a key driver of sustainable economic growth.

Speaking at the launch event, Hon. Miano emphasized the sector’s significance in Kenya’s economy, noting its role in employing millions of Kenyans, contributing to GDP, and showcasing the country’s diverse culture and landscapes.

She highlighted that the new strategic plan addresses both current and emerging challenges within the tourism industry, emphasizing the need to harness its immense potential.

“A core focus of the plan is the financing of tourism sector development,” Miano stated, stressing the importance of ensuring that funds are effectively used to maintain infrastructure and diversify tourism products to meet the evolving demands of both local and international tourists.

She also pointed out the critical role of strategic partnerships in achieving sustainable development.

The Ministry, in collaboration with the Tourism Fund, will work closely with stakeholders, including private investors, conservationists, and local communities, to ensure that the benefits of tourism are distributed equitably.

Miano underscored the Ministry’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for tourism growth, including capacity-building initiatives to enhance the skills of personnel within the sector.

She called on stakeholders to seize the moment and work together to create a more inclusive, resilient, and impactful tourism industry.

The Tourism Fund’s Strategic Plan is expected to strengthen Kenya’s position as a global top tourism destination while driving the sector’s contribution to national development.
