Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has alleged that former Interior Cabinet Secretary and presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i is a “state project” backed by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to destabilize the opposition.
Speaking during an interview on Kameme FM this morning, Njiru claimed that Matiang’i’s candidature was strategically designed to scatter the opposition vote and weaken its bargaining power ahead of the 2027 General Election.

However, Matiang’i’s allies have dismissed the claims. Pauline Njoroge, a close ally of the former CS, accused Njiru of being used by rival opposition leaders who are equally eyeing the presidential ticket.
“This is just propaganda meant to discredit Matiang’i. Some leaders feel threatened by his growing popularity and are using proxies to fight him,” Njoroge stated.
Matiang’i is expected to face stiff competition from other opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, both of whom have declared interest in succeeding President William Ruto.
