Patrick Kosum Muyei Declares Bungoma Senatorial Bid for 2027

Bungoma, Kenya – Education leader and agribusiness investor Patrick Kosum Muyei has officially declared his intention to contest the Bungoma County senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.

Muyei, who has previously served as an Assistant Education Officer in Mt. Elgon Constituency and later as a director in Siaya County, is widely recognized for his contribution to expanding access to education.

During his tenure, he spearheaded the opening of numerous schools in Mt. Elgon, making learning more accessible to local communities.

His efforts in education have also included encouraging parents to enroll their children in school and motivating graduates to pursue advanced studies for professional growth.

Beyond education, Muyei has made a mark in farming. He has invested in coffee production, bee-keeping projects, and dairy farming, ventures that he says reflect his commitment to economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods.

Focus on Inclusive Politics

Announcing his senatorial bid, Muyei said his mission is to represent not only the people of Mt. Elgon Constituency but the wider Bungoma County.

He pledged to push for fairness in resource allocation, equitable sharing of political positions, and better representation for minority communities.

“The Sabaots have for long been left out of influential county positions. Bungoma belongs to all of us, and inclusivity must be at the center of our politics,” he said.

He criticized the trend where dominant groups take the governor, senator, and woman representative seats, while minority groups are confined to deputy positions without real influence or budgetary allocation.

He further noted that county appointments for CECs and chief officers have rarely favored minorities.

Wide Political Network

Muyei also pointed to his extensive networks across the county, saying he enjoys strong support in Tachoni land, Tongaren, Kimilili, Kabuchai, and Webuye, in addition to his Mt. Elgon base.

He has called on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to spearhead discussions on equitable political representation in Bungoma, arguing that the county should adopt a model where leadership positions are shared among communities, as seen in other regions.
