Police and KDF Officers Involved in Ksh2.4 Million Fake Recruitment Plot
A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer described how he was given Ksh2.4 million by six young Kenyans who wanted to be enlisted in the Kenya Prisons at the beginning of 2022.
The KDF officer stationed at the Lanet Barracks admitted in front of the judge that he served as an intermediary by allegedly giving the bribe to a relative of the suspected mastermind to facilitate the six recruits’ hiring.
In his affidavit, he also asserted that top police officials received the funds to process recruitment letters, but that this turned out to be a hoax.
He, however, was unable to back up his assertions that he met the accused three times in Nairobi.
He also told the court that the Kiganjo Police Training College had discovered that the recruitment letters were fake.

The officer added that he gave all the money and did not bargain for a commission in an apparent effort to exonerate himself of any wrongdoing.
In conclusion, the prosecution told the court that it would present testimony from the parents of the six young Kenyans who were duped into raising the money.
In their argument, the defense attorneys accused the KDF officer of lying to the court.
They claimed that he belonged to a larger KDF racket that defrauded vulnerable young Kenyans under the guise of assisting them in enlisting in the disciplined forces.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned on February 28, 2023.
