In May 2022, Kasarani Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Peter Mwanzo narrated in court how he lost the money. He blamed the Telecommunication giants (Safaricom) for having a system that can be manipulated easily.

According to him, the criminals managed to scam him close to 600,000 within six hours.

“Within six hours, Sh 597,100 had been transferred from my Equity Bank account to M-Pesa, and later sent to an unknown number and withdrawn in Mulot, Bomet County. How this happened is a mystery,” the police boss told the court.

Crypto scammers

During an interview, Mr. Peter Mwanzo stated that the deceased were involved in crypto scamming, he confirmed that at one incident, the case had been reported but those involved managed to refund the cash they had swindled.

However, Kenyans on Twitter have started asking questions surrounding the death of Frank Obegi and three others. One of the users called Charles Harrison wonders how the OCPD who lost 600,000 feels when investigating the murder of Frank Obegi.

“Kasarani OCPD Peter Mwanzo recently lost Ksh 600k to SIM card fraudsters. Today he is investigating the murder of Frank Obegi and 4 other suspected fraudsters. I wonder how the guy is feeling,” his tweet read.

Another asked whether the police boss is involved in the whole story.

“Ama ni kazi ya mikono yake? Others went to report their friend missing pia wakaenda missing,” Okeneti questioned.

The death of Frank Obegi, Omeka, Obegi and Nyachae shocked Kenyans. Frank was a popular Kenyan Twitter influencer and blogger, died under mysterious circumstances.

“One of them had been partially eaten by wild animals. Their private parts had been cut off and it seems they died through strangulation. They had no identification documents and were naked,” Mr Adamson Furaha, the police boss in Lari said.
