Residents of Kapsokwony in Mt. Elgon sub-county on Monday blocked the Kimilili-Kapsokwony road, protesting its deteriorating condition and claiming neglect by the government.
Frustrated with the lack of action, locals planted banana trees on the road and burned tires to draw attention to their plight.

The protestors voiced their disappointment with the current administration, stating that despite voting overwhelmingly for the government, their area remains underdeveloped.
According to the residents, the President had promised last year that the road would be rehabilitated within six months. However, a year later, no significant progress has been made.
The locals also criticized Fred Kapondi, the area’s Member of Parliament, accusing him of favoring the Cheptais region while neglecting the development needs of the eastern parts of Mt. Elgon, including Kaptama and Kapsokwony.
“We feel abandoned by the very leaders we elected. This road is a lifeline for our community, and its current state is unbearable,” said one of the protestors.
Efforts to reach Mr. Kapondi and other local leaders for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
