Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen while speaking in an interview with Citizen TV, laughed off claims that the DCI had cleared Kalonzo Musyoka from a corruption case labeled against him.
Murkomen claimed that Kalonzo invited himself to the DCI, hired one officer to make it look like he had been invited.
“I found it funny when Kalonzo went to DCI. He invited himself to the DCI, arrange with the DCI guy, pretend that he doesn’t know what he is going to do. But he is walking with a written statement to attack the Deputy President.” He said.
He further claimed that DCI’s clearance was fake as they had no jurisdiction to clear him. He argued that DPP would have been the right department to clear him.
“Kalonzo Musyoka is the only Kenyan who has been given a clearance certificate from a criminal investigation by DCI. ordinarily, the legal process is this; if you’re accused and the DCI is investigating you for corruption or whatever crimes that file is sent to DPP who will then close your file” Said Murkomen.
The lawmaker added that matters that the former Vice President had been accused of should have been better dealt with by the National Land Commission.
“Kalonzo knows very well that matters involving land are investigated by National Land Commission and matters of corruption of the nature that he has committed would have been better dealt with by the EACC. He knows that the DCI has no power to write a letter to clear him,” he added.
“I would be sympathetic to Kalonzo if he came out of there and said I am not corrupt and these are the reasons why I am not corrupt.” He stated.
Deputy President William Ruto during a past event alleged that Kalonzo Musyoka was residing on public land that should be owned by the National Youth Service.
The remarks sparked a heated debate, Kalonzo led his troops in condemning the DP calling his remarks wild.
“On January 22, 2021, I presented myself to the DCI regarding the acquisition of Yatta farm. This was in response to allegations made about me by the Chief Priest of corruption that I had illegally acquired. All relevant documentation required to investigate this matter thoroughly was availed to the DCI,” he stated while appearing before the DCI.
