In a statement released on Friday, January 5, 2024, NHIF emphasized the mandatory use of the Government Pay bill Number 222222 for all mobile money platform payments related to NHIF.

According to NHIF’s communication, this update aligns with Kenya Gazette No.16008 of 2022 and a Presidential Directive mandating the use of Paybill Number 222222 as the exclusive government payment platform.
President William Ruto’s directive in June 2023 further solidified this mandate by ordering the closure of all other pay bill numbers previously utilized by various government agencies.
President Ruto highlighted the government’s objective to centralize revenue channels through Paybill 222222, ensuring transparent oversight of all government service payments by the Treasury.
His directive also included the termination of cash payments for government services, urging ministries, state departments, government agencies, and parastatals to transition to the government’s digital platform by December 2023.
NHIF members and employers must adhere strictly to the provided Paybill Number 222222 and the specified account number formats for respective payments. Failure to comply with these updated guidelines may result in payment discrepancies or processing delays.
NHIF emphasizes the importance of promptly adopting these changes to ensure a smooth transition and continued access to health insurance benefits. By centralizing payments through Paybill Number 222222, the government aims to enhance accountability and streamline financial transactions across government services.
For any inquiries or further clarification regarding the new payment procedures, NHIF encourages members and employers to reach out to their respective NHIF offices or visit the NHIF official website for updated information and assistance.
