Stop blaming the Russia-Ukraine war. Ruto attacks Uhuru
Deputy President William Ruto, on Friday, June 30, 2022, dismissed President Uhuru’s sentiments that the current skyrocketing cost of living is due to the Russia-Ukraine War.
Ruto, while launching the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, said that “This whole story about Ukraine is a lost cause,” he added that the high cost of living was brought about by the high cost of farm inputs.
“Therefore, the challenge of cost of living is not too scientific. The challenge of the cost of living is increasing agricultural productivity,” Ruto said.

The Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate added that farmers are struggling to produce enough quantities of farm produce because of lack of support from the government.
“A farmer who produces ten bags today per acre because they are struggling can produce 20-25 bags if we support them through fertilizer and seed subsidies and ensure that post-harvest challenges are managed,” the DP added.

However, President Uhuru Kenyatta, during the Labour Day celebration that was held at Uhuru Garden on May 1, 2022, dismissed Ruto’s claim that the government had neglected its course and focused on succession politics.
President Uhuru said “I am not in Ukraine”, a statement that implied that the hardship Kenyans are facing has been caused by the war in Ukraine.
