Raila Odinga has been making inroads to Mount Kenya in an effort to woe the voter-rich region to support his presidential bid. The region has more than six counties and it’s considered the most populated region as compared to other counties.

Don’t Cheat Raila

Speaking during a Sunday service attended by the ODM leader in Murang’a, the Royal Media Service chairman warned Raila to be cautious of Mount Kenya’s support.

“Let’s salute President Kenyatta for shaking hands with Mr. Odinga. Their handshake has stabilized peace in the nation, however, Raila should not be cheated that he will gather votes from the region. These people have an inside game plan that you must be very watchful of.” He stated

DP is popular

He stated that Deputy President William Ruto was more popular on the ground. And added that if votes were to be cast today, he would easily win.

“Don’t cheat him that the ground is okay, if we were to go and cast votes today, those people who have shown all the madharau including the President [referring to Deputy President and his allies], would easily win,” he added.

Jimmy Wanjigi

Despite attracting a number of supporters, Raila still faces a hard choice in consolidating the Mount Kenya vote. His staunch supporter, Jimmy Wanjigi has also shown interest in vying using the ODM party.

It’s not clear whether the ODM leader would support his presidential bid. Wanjigi stated in a past event that he was ready to face Raila during ODM primaries.

“Raila Odinga is my greatest friend. I will run against him during the ODM nomination to show Kenyans how democracy works in this country. We will compete and make sure the election is free and fair,” said Wanjigi after a church service at ACK St. Peter’s, Nyeri town.

The ODM leader has to restrategize how to entice the leadership of the region. Those who had followed him, have started looking for other survival ways after the BBI dismissal.
