Kalonzo says he won’t attend Azimio running mate interview here is why.

Wiper Democratic leader Kalonzo Musyoka has today, Thursday 5th May, 2022, stated that he will not be interviewed by the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya panel.

Kalonzo while on a two day campaign tour to Ukambani, Taita Taveta, and Mombasa counties, stated that he was not going to be interviewed for the running mate position.

Kalonzo on why he won’t attend running mate interview.

He asked the crowd why the Azimio panel were planning to interview him yet he has been Raila’s running mate in 2013 and 2017.

“I have been Raila’s running mate in 2013 and 2017, which kind of interview is this that they are planning? Did they interview me then? I decided that I will not attend the interview, Sipangwingwi,” He stated

Furthermore, the former Vice President urged President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to discuss with him on the way forward.

“A political process is a political process, the panelist should stay out of it, let president Uhuru, Raila Odinga and I decide. Or what do you think?” Kalonzo asked the crowd.

The Wiper leader noted that Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance should focus on defeating Ruto and not interviews.

“Instead of interviewing Kalonzo, let us interview ourselves, we ask ourselves where we are going? We have an issue to sort,”

In addition, the Kamba kingpin dismissed sentiments from UDA that seemed to defend him. He stated that he was a competitor against UDA and they should desist from defending him.

“I have heard that UDA politicians are the ones fighting for Kalonzo, I don’t want them to fight for me, I am planning to defeat UDA in the polls,” Kalonzo added.

Junet explains why they’re undertaking Azimio running mate interview

On the other hand, Suna Member of Parliament, Junet Mohammed had indicated that the process Azimio was getting involved in was to avoid appointing someone like the current deputy president.

“The guiding principle in identifying a running mate for the Azimio Presidential candidate is: We don’t want to have a deputy president like William Ruto,” His tweet read.

Deputy President William Ruto also commented on the issue saying that the process was humiliating Kalonzo, he termed it as impunity.

“Though we are competitors, to subject HE Kalonzo to some humiliating ‘interview’ is impunity. We must unite to eliminate the culture of political deceit, the hallmark of some politicians. Whatever the circumstances, every leader deserves some dignity and respect. Heshima si utumwa,” Ruto wrote.
