Unrest in UDA as it emerges that there are moles. Who are they?

Kenya Regional News has now established that the UDA party is on a housekeeping mission to identify the moles. It’s alleged that in the past two weeks there has been massive leak of information concerning the operations of the party.

According to a source who didn’t want to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, he told Kenya Regional News that deputy president William Ruto was worried about how information concerning party plans was being leaked to the media and to their rivals.

Ruto addresses a press conference when he convened a UDA Parliamentary Group in Karen on January 24, 2022/DPPS

Ruto was quoted saying “There are people who are leaking information about our party, we can’t work like this,” the source said in reference to what Deputy President said.

The latest being an allegation that has now divided the electoral commission. The Azimio La Umoja coalition claimed that some officials in the commission were befriending the Kenya Kwanza side in an effort to rig elections.

Another episode of failed gatekeeping is when the Deputy President made claims that he almost slapped the President when the August 2017 elections were nullified. The UDA top organ are now trying to establish who leaked the video and what the intention was.

What worries the officials is that the audio was so clear, yet the media were barred from covering the event. Even those running the deputy president’s social media handles were not allowed to cover the event live.

Only pictures of the elders attending the event were shared but there were restrictions when the main event started. There are allegations from the UDA side that the government, through the National Intelligence Services, are working closely with the Azimio La Umoja side to ensure that they win the August elections.

This is why Davis Chirchir, the alleged IEBC hacker, is back in the headlines.

In a crisis meeting held by UDA, an official suggested that there could be guests visiting the residence of the Deputy President in Karen. Some of them could be intelligence officers.

“We need to be extra careful with who we let into the premises of the deputy president. Some of these people could be the agents of our rivals, send to mine information,” the official noted.

The deputy President, while appearing at a town hall one on one with KTN TV, said that he made the remarks about slapping the president to a small audience.

According to our source, the audio was sent to the Azimio brigade, who later shared it with the media. What ruffles the UDA party is the amount of information that might have been shared with Azimio.

The leaking of information is now brewing mistrust in Kenya Kwanza. Those close to the coalition now claim that this could easily sink the coalition if a proper gate-keeping mechanism is not implemented.
