Voter bribery allegations rock Mt Elgon Constituency
Residents of Mt Elgon constituency have claimed that aspirants contesting for parliamentary seats have started bribing voters.
According to a resident from Kaptama Ward, Kongit sub location, one of the aspirants has started buying identification cards.
The resident who sought anonymity pointed out that the agents of the incumbent Member of Parliament are promising three thousand shillings for every ID.
“They are going door to door buying IDs, they promise you Ksh 3,000 shillings if you give out your ID,” He stated.

The allegations come a day after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission made it clear that they will use the electronic register requiring voters to use their finger prints.
Kaptama Ward is considered Allan Chemayiek’s stronghold, according to an interview contacted by Kenya Regional News, Fred Kapondi is using all means to ensure that he gets at least 30% of the votes from Allan’s strongholds.
“Kapondi knows that Allan is a strong candidate and he is trying hard to get at least 30% of the votes from Allan’s strongholds,” He stated
Fred Chesebe Kapondi is the United Democratic Alliance’s flag bearer, Kapondi won narrowly during the UDA nominations.
Others in the race are Robin Kesis, Kawon Kirui, Evans Chemwotei, Silas Cheren, Moses Cheshari, Moss Ndiema and Allan Chemayiek.
As the clock ticks towards the August 9 General Election, pundits opine that the political contest could be a two-horse race between Kapondi and Allan Chemayiek.
Mzee Jason Kimindanyi alias Ambacho, the chairman of the Kamugeek clan among the Sabaot, told Tuko.co.ke that it is high time that Kapondi should vacate the seat for fresh blood.
“We know that he (Kapondi) is working secretly with some people in this county that we are opposed to. The other day, he was a no-show at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Delegates Conference (NDC) in Nairobi despite the support that Deputy President William Ruto has accorded him all these long” Kimindanyi said in an exclusive interview.
