A day after the landmark ruling on BBI, a section of Mount Kenya leaders has come out to denounce the positions they had taken politically.
Leaders who were on retreat in Laikipia county claimed that they had not settled on a single candidate. It is believed that the leaders who are President’s diehards are now considering other options after the BBI dismissal.
Speaking after the two-day retreat, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru dismissed claims that suggested that they had settled on ODM leader Raila Odinga as their preferred candidate come 2022 general elections.
“There has been speculation that we are leaning towards Raila Odinga, that is not true. In fact, what we are doing is consultations so whoever we think will articulate our issues is the one we will back,” Waiguru said on Saturday.
Immediately after the BBI dismissal, Waiguru took to social media to say that Kenya was ready to move on and urged leaders to respect the decision of the court o appeal.
“Kenya will go on. BBI intended well but we must respect the constitutional authority of the courts and find other legitimate means to achieve Kenya’s unity and prosperity. And for some of us, it’s time for serious introspection on the political way forward,” she tweeted.
She added that the region was ready to accommodate other presidential candidates.
“Many of residents think we are divided on account that we are talking to these people who are seeking the top seat. You will see meetings of that kind since we are open to all,” she added.
Kiambu Governor James Nyoro seemed to avoid commenting on the issue involving choice of presidential candidate. He however chose to speak about the curent state of the economy.
He urged the government to delist youths from CRB as this was affecting their livelihood.
“Most of our people are suffering after being embargoed by CRB if you look at papers of those people listed majority are from the central region with some being auctioned. This must be addressed,” he added.
