Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria refuted claims that Mount Kenya should not produce a presidential candidate in the 2022 general elections. He says despite the reality of the region producing three presidential candidates since independence, it still has the right to do so.

He was addressing the members of the press at Ihura Stadium on Tuesday while flagging off his campaign team to Nyeri, where he also dismissed those calling for the merger of all political parties in the region with an aim of getting a stake in the next government.

“The region is not up for auction and people should stop claim they are negotiating for us because we have not appointed anyone to be our spokesperson,” he said.

He urged leaders to meet common mwananchi on the ground to seek the support of the voters rather than meeting in hotels to discuss politics. He sarcastically insinuated that he sees some leaders hopping from one hotel to another feasting on nyama-choma claiming to discuss the future of the region not knowing what happens to Wanjiku feeding on vegetables.

The Governor’s Party’s main aim is to not only see many people register as voters in the region but also join his party. His target is to reach the utmost four million members. He will be selling his vision to the people, and if they support him only then will he have the strength to meet with other parties.

He further went ahead to claim that he would follow the steps of others before him who did not beg other aspirants to have the interests of the region considered rather than be a member of the current bad team to endorsing the latter.

He told leaders from the region not to beg for a merger with other parties as the region has enough votes and can support its own candidate.

He clearly declared he will be on the presidential ballot come August 2022 elections as the flagbearer of his Usawa Kwa Wote Party.
