A growing number of young Kenyans are raising alarm over heavy financial losses linked to online gambling, with many pointing fingers at the popular casino game Aviator as a major culprit.

Several affected individuals have reached out to Kenya Regional News, sharing personal accounts of addiction, financial ruin, and emotional distress tied to the fast-rising betting trend.

Allan, one of the victims, revealed that what began as a harmless attempt to make quick money quickly spiraled into addiction.

He disclosed that between March and April 2026, he lost over KSh 300,000 while playing Aviator.

“I kept believing I would recover my losses or double my money, but each time I played, I ended up losing more,” Allan said.

In Eldoret, Kiplimo, a hardware businessman, narrated how he wiped out all his profits in a single night.

According to him, the promise of quick returns proved too tempting to resist.

“I used all the money I had made from my business that week. Within hours, everything was gone,” he lamented.

Students have not been spared either. Rono, a student at Moi University, admitted to using his school fees to try his luck on the game, only to lose KSh 38,000 in just 20 minutes.

“I thought I could double it and pay my fees comfortably. Instead, I lost everything,” he said.

For many, the problem goes beyond isolated incidents.

Wafula, a boda boda rider, described how the game has taken control of his daily earnings.

“Every KSh 100 I make, I feel the urge to stake it. At the end of the day, I go home empty-handed,” he said.

He recalled a particularly painful experience where he lost nearly KSh 3,000, his entire day’s earnings within minutes.

The affected youth say the addictive nature of Aviator lies in its simplicity and the illusion of easy money.

Players bet on a rising multiplier, hoping to cash out before it crashes, a gamble that often ends in total loss.

Now, many are calling on the government to step in and regulate online casino games, warning that failure to act could lead to a deeper social and economic crisis among young people.

“This is no longer just entertainment. It’s destroying livelihoods and futures,” one of the affected individuals noted.
